The Tales of Birbal

Here are a few pictures that I took from the Dress Rehearsal of 'The Tales of Birbal' by Mashi Theatre. I worked as assistant designer,to Sue Pyecroft, looking after the costumes, and helping realise the props and puppets. It really was such a good looking show to be making, I just wanted to take everything home with me. Especially Sue's woderful crow puppets, made from bin bags!

I got a lovely email last week, which included a link to the trailer of the show I worked on in Edinburgh last year; 'Not The End Of The World'. The director, Charlotte, has done a wonderful job of editing the film together, and it has lots of great shots of the wonderful music and drama... do have a watch!

I did a blog post recently with some of my photographs of the costume making, you can have a look at that here.

Bassett, Scenic Painting

The other week, I did a lovely little  job for Hannah Sibai. She has designed 'Bassett', at the Crucible, Sheffield, and I painted the set for her.

On the inside, we see the  school classroom setting, and the outer sections were a good brick selection.

It was a really good couple of days work, and a real pleasure to realise Hannah's design for her.

Annie

Another post from the summer time... helping to paint the wonderful jigsaw puzzle that is the design for 'Annie' bu Colin Richmond.

I  only helped out for about a week on this mammoth build, but it really was a stunning show to see the transformation from the tiny, and immaculate model, to massive theatre show.

I helped out painting the floor, and on some of the hundreds of jigsaw pieces that make up the scenery.

Some photos I took during the painting process.

The Unfair

I know its a very long time ago, however... during April, I got my sign painting brushes out for the first time, and what fun it was! Assisting with 'The Unfair', part of the Grief Series by Ellie Harrison, designed by Bethany Wells, we created an un-fairground, with traditional signs all over.

Not The End Of The World

Here are some of the production photographs for 'Not The End Of The World' that was at The Barbican, Plymouth last August with YMT. Based on the novel by Geraldin McCaughrean, it was adapted and directed by Charlotte Conquest, composed by Sonum Batra, with lyricist Dave Francis.

It's based on the story of Noah's Ark, but told from the perspective of Noah's daughter, who was never mentioned in the Bible.

The Tongue Twister

1:25 model of my design

Photographs from 'The Tongue Twister' by Luke Walker, directed by Alyx Tole. As part of the 247 Festival in Manchester...

There once was a land where rhyming was banned
If spoken or even a whisper
And if you were caught you’d soon understand
Why the bogeyman’s called The Tongue Twister!
But in walks a boy who rhymes all the time
Forever speaking in verse
To rhyme is sublime and should not be a crime
His tongue is surely a curse …

Painting Bins at Glastonbury Festival

Some photos from Glastonbury 2014. Painted the bins again and had such a wonderful, sunny few weeks, with the best bin painting friends.
