On The Shoulders Of Giants

Here are a few snaps from this truly spectacular event, in Oldham last autumn to celebrate the grand re-opening of Oldham Town Hall. 'On The Shoulders Of Giants' was directed and produced by Oldham Theatre Workshop, a fantastic theatre company for young people. The show was a real team effort, but the driving force behind the show was Sarah Nelson, the writer and director, and James Atherton, the composer the and director of OTW. The spectacular aerial work was by the amazing Upswing company, and Handmade Parade designed and made the wonderful, Oldham Giant puppet.

With help from my amazing assistant Irene Jade, I designed the props and costumes for the opening show, which really was a sight to behold! A rather crazy, but amazingly fun project to be a part of!

Wind in the Willows

Another post from the archives... and a few thousand willow leaves, for 'Wind In The Willows', which after a tour last autumn, will be opening at the London Palladium this coming June.

I worked with a couple of others, stringing on the thousands of leaves onto the chains, which form 3 sweepinglines of weeping willow curtains. Really beautiful, and a very meditative task.

The Colour of Me, Wriggle Dance

Its a rather late blog post, but I thought I would share a bit of the work I did last September, assisitng Sue Pyecroft, on 'The Colour Of Me', an interactive dance piece for children by Wriggle Dance.

There was lots of projection within the show, and Sue had created a wonderful white canopy for the projections to appear on. All of the set and costumes were white, and then the main props were different colours of the rainbow... I made a giant leaf, and a costume!

Have a watch of the wonderful trailer here:

More textile details from Hansel and Gretel

Shibori style dyeing became a large theme within the visuals of Hansel and Gretel, along with many textures being added on to the work, layer after layer.
